Grey Squirrel's Page of Silliness
Bird Feeding, Brain Damage Linked
Brain scans of people who feed birds and hate squirrels because they believe squirrels are robbing them blind, suggest they have brain damage, possibly as a result of too much worry.
The researchers said people who report symptoms, including stress, anger, and irrational paranoia had lower levels of a certain brain chemical than healthy people who love squirrels.
The researchers reported that magnetic resonance spectroscopy, which measures body chemistry, revealed that people who believe that squirrels have a deviant plan to organize and take over the world, have lower-than-normal levels of a chemical, N-acetyl-aspartate, in the brain stem and basal ganglia. That suggests a severe malfunction in the way these people process information.
